651 ARTS in partnership with The Fire This Time Festival present a screening of Madame of Leimert from PASSION: A larryjean “Gene” powell project.

A legendary Black gay nightlife icon must decide between pursuing personal love or continuing to carry a community on his back. This screening of The Madame of Leimert is presented as part of PASSION: Survival Source Material for the Betterment and Preservation of Our People.

PASSION: a larryjean “Gene” powell project, is a three-part cine-theatre triptych set in South Los Angeles, following a grieving artist, a Ballroom newcomer, and a nightlife elder as they each fight to find belonging, family, and the will to stay alive.

The screening will be followed by a 20-30 minute talkback.
