Reel Sisters will showcase 25+ films produced, directed and written by women of color.

Founded in 1997, Reel Sisters is the first Brooklyn-based film festival to provide opportunities for women of color in the film industry.

Reel Sisters is focused on presenting stories that evoke the full spectrum of human emotions. Reel Sisters loyalists attend the festival because their imaginations are fed.

From Candace Mae Williamson’s short documentary “Boil That Cabbage” capturing a young woman’s journey to learning the banjo’s rich heritage to “Headbang,” a short film exploring the complex power of the hijab, and how a simple piece of cloth embodies both what the wearer imbues it with and what society projects onto to it, Reel Sisters presents films that enrich our lives.

Rooted in the storytelling tradition, we are committed to presenting provocative films by women of color.
