The Illustrious Blacks + Latashá
With DJ Hard Hittin Harry
Hosted by Andre J

A performance party celebrating love, evolution and the communal culture of the 90s-era dance club.

In the not so distant past, “May I Borrow A Cup of Sugar?” was a common request amongst neighbors. For one night only, 651 ARTS celebrates the future of black art by fusing inspiration from Brooklyn’s neighborly past with the communal dance culture of 90s era nightclubs.

Key figures within the sonic movement of Afrofuturism, The Illustrious Blacks unite futuristic funk, hypnotic house and cosmic pop into pulsating positivity for the planet. They’ll premiere excerpts from their brand-new electro-punk-funk opera and forthcoming album A Union of Kings, a tale of the meeting of two cosmic beings and their journey to love.

Brooklyn Magazine once stated, “If you really want to know what Brooklyn sounds like, listen to Latashá.” She’s a prolific hip-hop, performance, and visual artist whose rhymes are a distinct reflection of her experience growing up in Flatbush in the 1990s, and of living in a very different Brooklyn now. Latashá will preview her upcoming EP, Chrysalis, a dancehall, hip hop and electronic meditation of her present ethereal cocoon state.

The art of clubmaking.

Commune. Connect. Dance.
